SMTB-2022 season started

In this challenging year The School of Molecular and Theoretical Biology (SMTB) is slowly returning to an offline format. Many SMTB students were not able to participate offline and to accommodate their needs, SMTB organized an online version for approximately 40 students. After the online session is completed, the school will welcome students in Tartu, Estonia for the offline version starting on 9 August for the remaining. The approximately 40 students and 40 faculty come from over a dozen different countries.

The school is based on a belief that many students of high school age are ready to participate, intellectually and through work in the laboratory, in real scientific experiments. In Tartu, the students will have an opportunity to work in a diverse set of labs, from immunology to bioinformatics.

Fyodor Kondrashov, scientific director of the school, is pleased to slowly return to offline mode of operation. “Over the last two years we could only provide a limited experience to our students. SMTB is an international community and providing a sense of community that our students will experience in the course of their academic career is only possible to recreate when our young researchers have a chance to interact in person”, - says Kondrashov.

The School of Molecular and Theoretical Biology was founded by the Dynasty Foundation in 2012. Since 2016 SMTB has been almost entirely supported by the Zimin Foundation.
